The PlayStation Portal is here, and the streaming handheld formerly known as Project Q will finally bring peace to households arguing over who gets to use the telly.

So today we'll go over everything you need to know about the funky new device, including its specs, price, trailers and where to buy it from.

It's not quite a successor to the PS Vita, we're afraid to say, as it requires a PS5 and a good internet connection to get the most out of it.

PS Portal reviews round-up: Is the PlayStation handheld worth it?

But enough from us, scroll on down to be teleported to our PlayStation Portal information portal!

All PlayStation fans will know how hard it's been to get your hands on this new handheld, what with stock running out every few days. But thankfully now it's back in, plus you can also get £60 off the new PS5 Slim while you're at it!

When is the PlayStation Portal release date?

The PlayStation Portal release date was 15th November 2023 in the UK.

Be sure to keep reading as we'll be going over where you can buy the PlayStation Portal.

What is the PlayStation Portal price?

The PlayStation Portal is £199.99.

While cheaper than a Switch, it's still a significant amount of money to spend on something that doesn't play games itself, and we'd recommend checking out reviews to see if it will fit in your gaming ecosystem or simply gather dust on the shelf.

Where to buy the PlayStation Portal - UK stock news

The PlayStation Portal sold out immediately pretty much everywhere at launch, but there's new stock coming in all the time!

So try the links below to see if you can nab yourself one. The following UK retailers have product pages, at least, so we'd hope they'll add new stock as some point.

Hopefully, with some luck, some of the retailers above had your future streaming champ in stock, but make sure to check back in often so you don't miss your next window of opportunity.

What is PlayStation Portal? PS5 streaming controller explained

The PlayStation Portal is a handheld device that is capable of streaming PS5 games over the internet using remote play, so you can play your installed game library anywhere within your own home.

You can only use a PlayStation Portal if you own a PS5, and any game you play on the handheld streaming device needs to be installed on your home console first.

You cannot install and play games directly onto the Portal - it is a remote-play streaming device only.

This isn’t a cloud-streaming device in the traditional sense. On the PlayStation Portal, you will be able to play your installed PS5 games within your home, over the same Wi-Fi network. It must be connected over the same network in order to work.

You can’t, for example, take your Project Q on your commute to play some God of War on the go.

In terms of specs, the PlayStation Portal has an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen with a 60Hz refresh rate, and a fully-featured DualSense controller - complete with haptic feedback and adaptive triggers - that has been stretched across the back of the device and split in two across its sides.

Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience at Sony, has said the following: PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi, so you’ll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal...

PlayStation Portal can play supported games that are installed on your PS5 console and use the Dualsense controller.
